Information shared in therapy is confidential. For cases in which insurance will be used for reimbursement, releases for billing must be obtained. Tennessee law also states that if a person is a direct harm to themselves or someone else that confidentiality is preceded by "Duty to Warn" and safety issues. Also, Tennessee law states that if a therapist receives information about a child, elderly or disabled adult being abused, that this must be reported to The Department of Childrens' Services or Adult Protective Services. HIPPA laws are confidentiality laws which are strictly followed in this office.
